It’s been a while since I’ve posted a Mommy School unit. We have been doing MS at home each day, but I have been focusing on summer fun activities instead of set themes. One of my goals for the summer with AG was to focus on reading everyday for at least 15 minutes. On top of that I am focusing on colors, numbers and letters.
Today I’m sharing a new favorite activity with you. There are so many things you can do with play-doh. I get it out for MS at least three times a week. AG is no longer at the age where she tries to eat it and although she’s not old enough to really build with it, she loves to explore.
For Hide & Seek Play-Doh, I used three containers of play-doh.
I chose a bunch of little items to hide inside the play-doh.
Using half the play-doh container for each ball, I hid one or two items inside and rolled it up.
I love this small muffin tin for a variety of activities, it was perfect for this one.
For the objects to hide, I used large buttons, small fish, one inch gems, a plastic rock from her farm unit, and a letter from her magnet set.
Teaching Points:
-Identify the colors of play-doh used and colors of objects inside.
-Count the number of balls along with the number of objects found.
-Talk about shapes of the objects and the balls (great circle focus.)
-Work on the concept of in and out while your child is pulling the items out and putting them back in.
When we do this activity, it lasts no less than 20 minutes. As soon as she finds all of the items she either hides them herself again or asks me to do it. Tying in all the teaching tips definitely makes the lesson last longer. It is a lot of fun for the both of us. Happy Teaching!
Cute idea! Mac really doesn't understand the concept of Play Doh and mainly just uses it as a ball to throw at the dogs. I like this idea though. I'll have to give it a shot and see if he picks up on it. Thanks!
Awesome idea! We're definitely going to try this 🙂
Great idea! I think Owen would really like finding the objects 🙂 Going to try this next week when things slow down for us a bit! Thanks for sharing! Pinning!
My daughter loves playing with play-doh! Thanks for the great Idea, I'm excited to try this with her:)
