Hello! My name is Julie and I blog over at The Girl In the Red Shoes . I’m so increadibly excited to get a chance to guest blog for Leah today! We both love so many of the same things…we were meant to be blog friends!

Probably the number one question I get from readers and real life friends is “how do you curl your hair?”….so that’s exactly what I’m going to talk about today! Enjoy!
Okay first up you’ll need hair spray and a good curling iron. I use my trusty revlon ceramic 1inch curling iron that I’ve had forever. The larger the iron the larger the curl will be, so I like mine about medium sized.

I also use Aussie Sun-Touched Hi Hold + Hi Shine hair spray. It smells great and isn’t too sticky. You’ll also need a clip or a rubber band to secure sections of your hair.
I have really thick hair so I wash it every other night. I usually let it mostly air dry and then zap it with a hair dryer for a few minutes before I go to bed. Then I brush it and curl it in the morning. Squeaky clean hair doesn’t hold a curl as well as hair that is slightly dirty.
So here’s me with my funky and straight bed-head. Just keeping it real!
Section off your hair so that you can curl the bottom layer first. I just tie my hair up with a rubber band. Then grab a small section of hair and squirt on some hair spray.

Take your curling iron to the top of your piece of hair and twist.
Wait a few seconds and the slightly open your curling iron. Pull down to grab more hair with the iron while keeping the top piece of hair in the barrel. Then twist again for a few seconds.

Then again slightly open the curling iron to grab the entire piece of hair and twist. Hold for a few seconds and then pull down and release the curl. This method will allow you to curl the entire piece of hair, not just the bottom. The curl will last longer this way.
Then repeat on other sections of hair. The whole process usually takes me about 20 minutes. While curling the one piece of hair I use my other hand to prepare the next section. After I curl a section I put my curling iron down on the counter and then use that hand to hold to spray the hair spray.

Here it is again. Curl from the top
Wait a few seconds then grab more hair.
Wait a few seconds then grab all of the hair. Then release.
I part my hair on the left. For the left side of my head I curl counter-clockwise and for the right I curl clockwise. It just lays better that way. For the back of my head I curl in whatever direction I feel like!
Once I am done curling I secure all of my hair in a loose bun at my neck. Then I usually put my make-up on and get ready for the day. Once I’m ready I pull out the bun and run my fingers through my hair so that I don’t look like Shirley Temple.
Your hair always looks amazing. Thanks for the tutorial!! I think I just need more practice! 🙂
