I’ve taken a break from the big over planned mommy school units for the summer.
My summer goal with AG is to do something fun everyday.
No lessons planned, nothing written in my planner for mommy school each day, just F.U.N.
Isn’t that what summer is all about?!?
Hubs was traveling a bunch before our vacation, which made for some long days around here. As much as I adore this age, some days are challenging. To kill time before bed on those looong days, I’ve been trying to make bath time a little more fun. I did some Pinterest searching and found a few recipes for painting in the bathtub.
What I loved about both of the bathtub activities below was a) it extended bath time by over 20 minutes and b) AG had so much fun! It was also educational because we practiced drawing shapes and talked about the colors. For older children, they could use the paint and shaving cream to draw and write their letters and numbers. I also love using the muffin tin for activities like this. It’s easy to keep everything together, nothing to throw away at the end, just a little rinsing out.
Here are the two bathtub fun activities we tried:
Bathtub Watercolor Paint
a few drops of baby shampoo
1 drop of food coloring
2 tsp corn starch- enough to make it a paint like consistency
a few drops of water
This was pretty watery. Honestly, I have yet to have great success using corn starch to make paint. With that said, the mini loved it. I thought it would stain the tub and AG but it didn’t. She didn’t use the paintbrushes that much, she just used her hands.
Bathtub Shaving Cream Paint
Shaving cream
a few drops of food coloring
Just mix it until you have the color you’re looking for. One thing I will say about this mixture is it turned AG’s hands blue after a few minutes. The blue was the only color that did it. I may have added too much coloring. But next time, I’ll try adding washable fingerprint to the shaving cream.
What a great idea and lots of fun for the kids.
So cute! We love bathtub painting! Sometimes I get in the bathtub with Mac and let him paint me, which he thinks is hilarious and I end up looking like I was covered in warpaint! So much fun!
Love the shaving cream idea…. a must do!!!
