Since the 4th of July is this upcoming weekend, I thought it would be fun to focus on patriotic activities this week. There are so many cute ideas on Pinterest, it was hard to narrow them down for this week. I chose things that would be easy to manage for me and things AG could do without tons of my help. L is a wrecking ball and it’s hard to get a lot done when he’s awake these days.
Take a look below to see how we’re going to finish off our first month of summer fun!
Firework Painting: Using a toilet paper roll cut at the end or a group of straws, this will be fun for the littles. I’m going with the toilet paper roll, for AG I can see it making less of a mess than the straws. Another fun (and messy) idea is to use water colors and straw to create a firework painting. Put drops of paint on the paper, make sure it’s watered down. Use a straw to blow the paint in different directions, creating fireworks.
Elmo Doodle Dandy with Flag Sandwiches. We’re big Elmo fans in this house, I know AG will love this book. I also realized I don’t have ANY patriotic books around the house. Thanks to Amazon, this one will be here this week. I love this sandwich idea. I think I’ll do it with waffles instead since AG is not a big sandwich eater.
Firework in a Jar: This activity isn’t one that will take a long time but I know AG will love it. I have a feeling she’ll be asking for me to do it over and over again!
Patriotic Sensory Bin: It’s been a while since I’ve done a sensory bin for AG. This week, I’ll use colored rice to make a patriotic bin for her. There are a few little things I picked up at Target’s Dollar Spot this week that will be perfect to add in to it. To add in a learning aspect, we’ll work on sizes of the start. I cut a bunch out of cardstock in a variety of sizes. She’ll go searching for them in her bin and when she finds them, we’ll compare them for size and line them up smallest to largest.
Gymboree Free Play: AG’s last week in her Gymboree class is this week. Next week, she starts summer camp two mornings a week at the place she’ll be going to preschool. Since this is her last week at Gymboree, we’re going to go as much as we can this week. She doesn’t know it, but L will start his Gymboree classes next week. AG started at his age and I know he’ll love it. We’re going during her naptime and thankfully he can’t talk to tell her where we’re going. I know she’ll be extremely jealous if she knew we were going without her! Big sister problems.
Do you have any fun ideas for the littles this week to celebrate the 4th?
I’ve pinned all of the activities above to the Mommy School Pinterest board along with a bunch of fun activities and lessons for your littles. Don’t forget to follow!

Great activities! I’m going to try the fireworks with Owen this afternoon! I think the TP roll is a good idea because if we use a straw he may try to suck the paint up into it!
