Sometimes there is a song you hear and it immediately hits home. My Wish by Rascall Flatts has been a favorite of mine for many many years. Last fall, when L was about 3 weeks old, the song came on one afternoon as he was napping on my chest. I can remember the day like it was yesterday. The windows were open, the breeze was gently coming through and the only sound to be heard was the radio playing. It was one of those moments you soak up and never want to end.
Even though I had heard My Wish a hundred times before, it was different this time. Every word sunk in and it made me think of the sweet boy napping on my chest and what I hope for him in this life. As we get ready to celebrate his golden birthday tomorrow, I look back on how fast this year has gone. Knowing he’s my last baby makes this birthday bittersweet. I’m a little sad that the days of having a baby in our house, in my arms are gone but I’m looking forward to what is ahead. I’m looking forward to watching him grow and his personality develop. I’m looking forward to seeing him start to run, learn to communicate and all the milestones ahead of us.
What has become more clear this year than ever before is time is precious. It passes in the blink of an eye. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost an entire year since that afternoon. As much as I want to, I can’t freeze time, I can’t press pause, I can enjoy my time with them while they’re little and cherish being able to watch them grow.
As Luke grows and turns into the person God intended him to be, this will be my wish for him…
My Wish by Rascall Flatts
I hope the days come easy and the moments pass slow,
And each road leads you where you wanna go,
And if you’re faced with a choice, and you have to choose,
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you.
And if one door opens to another door closed,
I hope you keep on walkin’ till you find the window,
If it’s cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile.
But more than anything, more than anything
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you’re out there getting where you’re getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.
I hope you never look back, but you never forget,
All the ones who love you, in the place you live,
I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,
And you help somebody every chance you get,
Oh, you find God’s grace, in every mistake,
And always give more than you take.
But more than anything, yeah, more than anything
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you’re out there getting where you’re getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish. Yeah, yeah.
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you’re out there getting where you’re getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish (my wish, for you).
This is my wish (my wish, for you)
I hope you know somebody loves you (my wish, for you).
May all your dreams stay big (my wish, for you)

Who knows, this could be the song we dance to at his wedding.

Here is the song for AG on her first birthday.
it was the song my husband danced to with his mom 😉
he hates Rascall Flatts but she chose it and he said “I can’t really say no right?” and I said “NO you can’t…just let her have this one!”
That would be a awesome mother-son dance song!
